The self-produced album is written over the course of several years, themes of ageing, death, and mourning began to emerge and frontwoman Kazu Makino has specifically cited Joan Didion's The Year of Magical Thinking as an influence on the album.
Blonde Redhead consists of Kazu Makino (vocals, keys/rhythm guitar) and twin brothers Simone and Amedeo Pace (drums/keys and lead guitar/bass/keys/vocals, respectively) formed in New York City in 1993.
